EDUCATION IN EGYPT
It is divided into two stages: Pre-higher education (School education) and
Higher education.
The school education system
is divided into three stages:
Kindergarten
(2 years). However it is not necessary to start the second stage
Basic
education (9 years), it consists in 6 years of Primary school and 3 years in
Preparatory school
Secondary
Education (3 or 5 years)
School year is divided into 2 semesters, at the end of
each semester; students take an exam or a test. The grades are points in ranges
to 200 to 380. Students are able to advance to next course if they get 50% or
more points.
Good students with higher grades can apply to "General" Secondary
school. The students with lower grades can apply to technical schools;
in Egypt there are three types of these (industrial, commercial or agricultural).
Schools in Egypt
It can be Governmental schools or Private schools
- Governmental schools
1. Arabic schools: It is a
free school
2. Experimental language
school: In these type of schools, there are two classes in English, first
Science and second Mathematics. In these schools, the students required higher
grades.
- Private schools
1. Ordinary schools: It is like as Arabic schools by
it is manage by private management, sometimes in these types of schools,
children learn English.
2. Language schools: There are a lot of topics in
English.
3. Religious schools: These are Islamic or Catholic
schools.
4. International schools: In these schools usually use
another country’s curriculum, like British or German
system.
Higher
education system
After schools, some students go to universities or institutions
- Universities in Egypt
There are 19 public (state-funded) universities. The Egyptians pays only the registration, but
foreign people pays full fees. An important and a recognized public university
is Al Azhar University, considered by most Sunni
Muslims to be the most prestigious school. It is the second oldest university
in the world with uninterrupted operation.
Besides, there are 20 private universities where
students pay tuition fees. Generally private universities are having less
reputation than public universities but still some of them like American
University in Cairo (AUC) or German University in Cairo (GUC), with high reputation.
- Institutions: There are about 51 public and 109 private institutions in Egypt
